Love is bliss …! – Music Director Bharadwaj

Music Director Bharadwaj

I got married in the year 1988. On the next day of my marriage itself, I took a courageous decision. I firmly decided that music should be my profession and I resigned my job. With the wholehearted support of my family, I worked full-time searching for opportunities.

Q: It is really highly risky to resign the job on the next day of the marriage itself … did your wife agree to this idea …?!

A: : Normally, the parents do not consider anybody in the film industry as a ‘varan’ for their daughter. So, I decided to get married when I was a chartered accountant, employed with a good firm. Then, immediately after marriage, I chose my favorable profession. Both my music life and married life started together hand in hand. I entered film industry with the full support of my wife. I lived alone in Chennai for two years after I came here, my parents were in Delhi at that time. When I told my father about my decision to become a full-fledged musician, my father told me that he had no knowledge of accountancy or music but his blessings would always be there for me to come up in my career. His words instilled in me a sense of full freedom coupled with great responsibility and restraint.

Jayashree Bharadwaj: I should first tell you about our marriage. My native place is also Thirunelveli and I was also brought up in Delhi. My grandparents and his grandparents were friends, they were distantly related too. Our marriage was decided by the elders. I firmly believe that I am really very lucky to have Bharadwaj as my life-partner. I gave my consent wholeheartedly to his decision because I knew that his mind was always filled with music and that he would surely win in his endeavor. But it was a risk also, I agree. He used to sing very beautifully and I would be lost listening to him. I thank God for granting him fruits for his efforts.

Q: How was your life as a music director at the beginning?

Music Director Bharadwaj & Kalyanamalai Mohan

A: : If it is a business, we can learn the ropes from experienced people. But a music director cannot seek help from another musician or for that matter, from anybody. Self-confidence, intelligence, skill etc. are the investment. My basic qualification as a chartered accountant helped me a lot in my ability to think over and plan. And, with the blessings of the elders and with the grace of the God, we can succeed in our endeavors; I’ve unshakeable faith in this truth. Like in any other field, here also we face challenges and hurdles. In the beginning, I struggled for seven years … pain is embedded in any creative journey
