Love is bliss …! – Music Director Bharadwaj

Q: You wrote the lyrics, composed the music and sang the song also for All India Radio. Did you get a similar opportunity in films?

A: : No, not thus far. The first lines of the songs ‘Ngabagam varudhe …’, ‘Meendum pallikku pokalaam …’ were suggested by me. The lyricists retained my lines as they suited the music, they wrote the rest of the lyrics. They say that my voice is very suitable for philosophical songs. So, I sing this type of songs. I can sing other types of songs too but I don’t want to ‘torture’ people with my voice! Presently, I am scoring music for Thankar Pachchan’s film ‘Kalavaadiya pozhuthugal’. I believe the film would earn me a good name.

Q: Some people go abroad to write lyrics and score music …

A: : It’s a good thing. Great results can be achieved when we work in a new ambience without any interruption. I had been to all the countries to conduct music programs. I take my wife with me whenever possible. Recently, I had been to the US and Singapore along with her.

Q: Please tell us about some interesting incidents that took place during your work …

A: : We had been to Kodaikanal in connection with the film ‘Amarkkalam’. Vairamuthu, who wrote the lyrics, told Saran, the director to leave him at some interior spot inside the forest so that he could descend to a state of ecstasy and write the lyrics that would flow from his inner mind. When Saran volunteered that we all would accompany him, he refused saying that being a native of Theni district, he was not new to forest and hills and that he was not afraid of those places. We dropped him as per his wish. And, when we went to him after about five hours, we got the enthralling lines “Unnodu vaazhaatha vaazhvenna vaazhvu …”. The song was picturised beautifully in my music. The interesting and amazing thing was that Ajith Kumar and Shalini who acted in this film fell in love singing and acting in song sequences! And, this song played its magic, being one among the many songs! I feel happy and proud that my music had helped unite two young hearts in real life paving the way for a successful happy marriage. As Mr. Mohan unites two hearts in wedlock through his TV program, I had initiated a marriage through my music! I can share another beautiful incident.
