“Learn to be calm, learn to be positive …!” – Dr. Chockalingam

Dr. Chockalingam, Cardiologist, Professor& Head of the department of cardiology in the Government General Hospital, Chennai

Q: What are the exercises that you recommend to prevent heart attack?

A: We should include vegetables and greens liberally in our diet. Oil, chilly and salt should be consumed less. We should not eat full-stomach. Water should be drunk to fill one-fourth of the stomach and the other one-fourth should be left to remain empty. We should not avoid breakfast. Lunch should be moderate and dinner should be much less in quantity. Dinner should be taken three hours earlier from the time of going to bed. Undigested food should not remain in the stomach when going to bed. Today, from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. everybody is busy and tensed preparing to go to the office. Late nights and negative dreams are very harmful to the mind. Yoga, meditation and physical exercise are very important for health. Meditation is important to develop a thoughtless mind. When you reach this stage, you’ll be able to realize that life is empty and is only an illusion! In this stage, no happening can impact our mind. Illiteracy, discrimination, poverty, jealousy, ignorance and untouchability should not be allowed to enter our mind. Instead, integrity, truthfulness, purity and gentleness should be inculcated.

Q: Nowadays most of the men and women are in the software field. They fall in love and get married. But they separate after a time, why?

A: You can never get a match agreeing with you cent percent on all matters. You should choose your partner carefully. You should look at the positive side of your partner only. Gap should not be allowed to develop in between the partners and we should never allow a third person including our parents to enter this gap. The number of couples applying for divorce within three months of marriage is increasing. They want to separate even for flimsy reasons. I am sure that ‘Light Foundation’ will prove itself a good ‘guide’ for firming up the ties ensuring permanency of the institution of marriage.

Dr. Chockalingam is busy round the clock; he doesn’t look like a retired person! The heart cannot rest, so also the cardiologist!
