Character Artist M.G.Chakrapani

From his childhood M.G.Chakrapani was behind the growth of M.G.R. at every stage. During the earlier days he has coordinated in grouping the drama artists, performed prompting during the drama and acted in English speaking characters that requires a majestic look. Thus he continued his acting as a character artist in the drama as well as in the cinema and earned appreciation from every corner till the end.

Idintha Kovil a drama staged by MGR nadaka mandram was renamed as Inba kanavu and staged again. Similarly dramas such as Advocate Amaran, Sumaithangi, Bagaivanin Kathali, and Kalvanin Kathali were staged all over Tamil Nadu and received appreciation. MGR asked the suggestion of his brother to start a cinema production company. Chakrapani immediately agreed to the proposal and the MGR pictures was started. Nadodi Mannan was the first film and Director K Ramnath was directing it. When he died suddenly Chakrapani encouraged MGR to direct the movie himself and MGR for the first time directed the movie.

M.G.Chakrapani married Meenatchi Kutty as his second wife and the couple got eight children namely Prabakar, Chandran, Sukumar, Leelavathi, Vijayalakshmi, Rajendran, Balu and Vijayakumar. Among them Sukumar entered the filmdom with the blessings of his father and MGR. His first film Meenava Magan was stopped in half way. Subsequently he has acted in the films such as Kumkumam Kathai Solgirathu, Ambe athu bombay (Malayalam), Karadi, Porkalam, Aval Oru Kavariman, Manam Maaraatha Malligai, Ilayarajavin Rasigai, Nadigaiyin Kural and Thulluvatho Ilamai.

Under the banner of MGR Pictures again they started producing a film titled Bhavani under the direction of director Masthan. For some unknown reasons the film was dropped suddenly. They produced the same film with a different name Arasakattalai. MGR asked Chakkarapani to direct the film. His first film as director became a box office hit.
