Potpourri of titbits about Tamil cinema - Actor V. K. Ramasamy

Actor V. K. Ramasamy, Potpourri of titbits about Tamil cinema , kalyanamalai tamil weekly magazine

When I asked him why actors invited loss by producing films instead of saving their earnings, VKR replied that only those who were in love with cinema would think of producing films. “If we do not use the money we earned through cinema for promoting cinema, it would tantamount to betrayal. Wrong planning and entrusting money with wrong people will lead to loss. We realize the truth only after everything is over. Cinema is a good industry, there’s no risk if we plan things properly,” VKR replied.

“I am a staunch patriot. I’ve great respect for Mahatma Gandhi and Kamaraj. In Virudhunagar, when I was a boy, we used to carry flags and shout slogans against the British as per the words of Kamaraj. On the day of Independence, I, along with NSK, T. K. Ramachandran, C. S. Pandyan and ‘Karikol’ Raj watched people celebrating the victory on the streets of Madras. We all felt extremely happy on that day,” VKR told with overwhelming happiness.

VKR had acted in more than 1,600 films; he had acted with actors belonging to five or six generations! His wife Ramani Ammal was also an artiste, having acted in stage plays and films. VKR had four sons and three daughters. He gave good education to all of them and saw they were all placed comfortably in life. He died on 24th December 2002 at the age of 77, leaving a vacuum in the industry.
