That boy was very poor. Nobody including his relatives helped him. His father was a farmer and his mother was very sick. The family lived in a hut. He had no food on many days and satiated his hunger with groundnuts and water. He wanted to die. One day, he left his hut without informing anybody. He didn’t know where he was going and what he was doing. He was driven by some external power. He reached the bottom of Palani Hills. The place was a forest area. He spotted a Muruga temple on the hill. When he was wondering how to reach it, he felt very hungry. As he had no food, he swooned.

When he opened his eyes, he saw a tigress playing with her cubs near him. Initially, he was frightened but was a bit relieved when he saw the animals approaching him with love in their eyes! But then, didn’t mind dying and was ready for any attack from the tigress. But a miracle happened. The tigress lifted the boy and placed him on its back and took him to a place where there were lots of fruit-bearing trees. And, there was a stream near the garden. The tigress put down the boy to the ground and lied down. The boy ate the fruits that had fallen from the trees and drank the water from the stream. The fruits had a delightful taste and the water was like nectar. Lord Muruga and Sivalinga appeared before him at that spot. Astonished and spellbound, the boy started performing meditation. Lord Muruga taught him the mantras. From that day onwards, he performed ‘abhishek’ to the deity, Lord Muruga, at the temple daily by bringing water from the bottom of the hill. He rode on the back of the tigress for bringing water to the temple. And, he became a siddha after a few years. He came to be called Pulipani siddha.

He wrote medical notes on palm leaves with the help of Lord Muruga to treat diseases. And, he grew new herbs and cured people of incurable diseases. Many became his students in course of time. The siddha chose some of them and passed on certain divine secrets to them and became a guide for mankind.

Even today, Pulipani siddha is believed to be around in an invisible state riding the tigress. If we have any problem, we can go and pray to Lord Muruga at the Palanimalai temple and also pray to Pulipani siddha at the north-eastern side. The siddha will immediately come to our rescue in some way or the other. He would help us neutralize our karma too. There are a lot of incredible narratives about Pulipani siddha. We can be proud when we hear about them. Pulipani siddha is always with us as our guardian angel.
