Save marriage … save the institution …, Vazhkai vasapadum, Kalyanamalai Magazine

We keep learning lessons from our mistakes and failures till end. The quality of our life is determined by many factors – the character of the person, the nature of his family members, family circumstances, the condition of the society, his capacity to face challenges, etc. But however much we discuss and analyze, eventually, it all depends on one’s ability to understand and plan things.

Everybody’s life is different. But there are certain factors that can assure us a peaceful and happy life. Love is the basis for all happiness in a family. Incidents and problems might differ from family to family. But, the basic causes for the problems and the ways to solve them are applicable to all. We should never be the cause for a problem; we should be the cause for solution. Relationships are very important for life but at the same time, life has other important aspects too. Relationships alone cannot constitute life. Life-partner, parents, siblings are all very close relations and we’ve the responsibility and duty to take care of them, keep them happy and maintain a harmonious relationship with them. But, at the same time, every one of us should have our own aim and ambition in life. Even elderly people, depending on their ability, have the right to expect a life that would give them satisfaction and happiness. They can have some activity suiting their age and capacity to work. If things work out this way, then, no relationship would be a burden for us. Family is the basis for the happiness of each and every one; it should never be allowed to become a burden.

Every succeeding generation enjoys more facilities and advantages when compared to the previous one. But, at the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the quality of life is better than that of the previous generation. Man is a wonder that keeps growing. Negative feelings like enmity, ego, revenge and hatred still exist, but the present and future generations should win over these negative feelings that mar our happiness and peace. New ways and new thinking are always welcome; we should never compare things with the past. But it will be a healthy attitude to assure ourselves that we are much better mothers-in-law than our own mother-in-law.
