K.B.Sundarambal was chosen as an apt choice to act as Kavunthi Adigal in the film Poompuhar. Accordingly, KBS received the news about Kalaignar and SSR arriving to Kodumudi to meet her.

Happy to receive her 'sons', she has arranged for a feast and good number people from Kodumudi have gathered to see Kalaignar and SSR. K.B.Sundarambal, unwilling to act on the film explained that she did not act in any of the Tamil films after Ouvaiyar and was only giving music concerts. However, both Kalaignar and SSR did not leave her and took efforts to convince her.

When KBS said 'I have faith only in Congress policy and have deep faith in god' and how it will work out with you people who have no belief in god and faith in the policies of Dravidar Kazhagam. Kalaignar immediately said 'the film is not about the God or policy of any party and is about Kannagi, who is known as Karpukkarasi, and you will be acting in the role of the Kavunthi Adigal the Jain priest. But, KBS was unwilling to give them any hold or commitment.

Kalaignar was not willing to give up. SSR emphatically expressed his desire to act with KBS. Finally, KBS said that she would act in the film only on getting the permission from Lord Murugan of Pazhani. Having known about the deep god faith of KBS both have requested her to give a positive answer and returned to Chennai.

After a few days, Kalaignar received the news about KBS getting Murugan's permission and her willingness to act as Kaunthi Adigal in the film Poompuhar.

The filming of song sequences involving KBS took place Hampi in Karnataka, with sculptures of Krishna Deva Raya period in the background. The philosophic song written by Kalaignar depicts the sequence of life and it remained apt to both the life of Kovalan and the listener. Kalaignar wrote the song in a very short duration of driving from his home to the studio. The people like the song sung by KBS in Sindhu Bairavi Raga even today.

On another occasion, KBS objected to the words used in a song written by poet Mayavanathan. She was hesitant to sing the words 'Deivam engay chendru vittathu' and suggested to change the lines. In the absense of Mayavanathan, who was away, Kalaignar without hesitation changed the words as Deivam ingay vandhu vittathu to the satisfaction of KBS.

K.B. Sundarambal, during the recording of the song was all in praise of Kalaignar for his quick witted action and his attitude in not hurting the sentiment of others.
