He was very active and successful in cinema. He was untiring, not cowed down by failures and was steadfast in his goal. In the year 1940, teaming up with some of his friends he promoted ‘Prsgathi Studios’ in Chennai. After some time, he started his own AVM Studios at Devakottai Rastha, near Karaikudi. He raised huts in a shed and made them part of the studio. And, in 1948, due to some unavoidable reasons he shifted the studio to Chennai. In the early years of his career, he established ‘Saraswathi Stores’ which sold gramophone records. He made his debut as a producer with the film ‘Alli Arjuna’, released in the year 1934. The film was produced in Calcutta. ‘Rathanali’, ‘Nandakumar’, ‘Bhookailash’, ‘Vasanthasena’, ‘Harichandra’, ‘Vaayaadi’, ‘Poli Panchali’ constituted the string of films produced by him in his early years. All proved huge hits. ‘Sabhapathy’, released in the year 1941 was his first directorial venture. ‘Sri Valli’, ‘Naam iruvar’, ‘Vaazhkai’, ‘Orr iravu’, ‘Parasakthi’, ‘Anbae vaa’ and ‘Major Chandrakant’ were some of the best films produced by AVM.
