“We searched for alliance for my daughter for one and a half years but nothing happened. But the marriage itself was celebrated within eight months of registration with Kalyanamalai!” says Moorthy, the father of Kalpana in an exuberant tone. The groom Senthilkumar had also registered with Kalyanamalai.

“We participated in the Thirumana thiruvizha of Kalyanamalai held at Mylapore, Chennai and registered for our daughter there. We received several calls from boys’ parties and many letters also. We were very particular about the suitability of the boy to Kalpana. When we got the portfolio of Senthilkumar, we found him very suitable. Thanks to Kalyanamalai, my daughter got an extraordinary husband. I belong to a scheduled caste while my wife belongs to Naidu community. Senthilkumar’s parents also are an inter-caste couple. There was agreement on all points between the boy and the girl and so, we finalized the marriage. The wedding was celebrated on 14 June on a very grand scale. Congress leader K. V. Thangabalu honored us by attending the marriage. And, many other leaders also attended. We were all very happy. The credit for my daughter getting a very good partner should go to Mr. Mohan of Kalyanamalai. We consider Kalyanamalai the ‘Morning star’ of our family.
