His jadamudi will be visible from the center of the river bed while his body would be beneath the bed

Jadamudi Siddha, Thiruvannamalai, kalyanamalai Tamil Weekly magazine, Serial story

People living on the banks of Thenpennai River cannot be without knowing the name of Jadamudi siddha. When the river is dry, the ‘jadamudi’ of the siddha will be visible from the center of the river bed while his body will be beneath the bed. When there is flood, the ‘jadamudi’ will be seen above the water level while his body would be immersed. People at the site will be spell-bound on seeing this rare phenomenon. Nobody can predict as to when the siddha would come out of the water and when he would return. He’ll emerge all of a sudden, will not talk to anyone, will go to Thiruvannamalai by walk, will do Girivalam there and will return to the river and stay under the water! His ‘jadamudi’ will be always visible when seen from the river bank.

He’ll reply to the questions of those who go to him for redemption from their sufferings, by using sign language. Those, who understand the meaning of his gestures and act accordingly, are relieved of their sufferings.

Who is this siddha who is always in the meditation mode? Where did he come from? How he is able to live under water? Nobody knows the answers to these questions. His undertakings of ‘Girivalam’ and the miracles he performs make people believe that he is the messenger of Lord Siva, appearing as a siddha. He performed the rare act of entering another body at Thirukoilur. During the Sivarathri festival at Thiruvannamalai, a deer, tortured by a hunter took shelter in a mutt in a near-death condition. In those days, if an elephant or a cow or a deer died during the festival, the temple would be closed. The puja and the festival, both would be cancelled. On seeing the condition of the deer, the devotees feared that if the deer died, the festival would be cancelled. They rushed to the ‘Jadamudi’ siddha, requesting him to save the deer so that the festival would be celebrated without any obstacle. The siddha immediately entered the body of the deer with the power of his penance and the puja was completed.

‘Jadamudi’ siddha had performed miracles of this kind whenever the situation had demanded. Lord Siva had blessed the siddha with a vision of Himself, pleased with the love of the siddha for Him. ‘Jadamudi’ had saved the crops from drought by flooding the waters of the Thenpennai River. Anyone who comes to the banks of the river and prays to the siddha is immediately blessed with a solution to his problem.

Even today, on all the Full Moon days, ‘Jadamudi’ siddha participates in the Girivalam in Thiruvannamalai, mixing with the devotees as one among them. Even if we are not able to spot him at the site, if we pray to him during Girivalam, he’ll come to our rescue immediately. The God sends siddhas like ‘Jadamudi’ to help us during our times of adversity and suffering. Many good things happen on the earth due to the presence of siddhas among us.
