Siddha, Siddhas are with us, kalyanamalai Tamil Weekly magazine, Serial story

A mother, reeling under penury, deciding to throw her child away into a river was carrying her eighteen-month old son during midnight. On her way, she suddenly heard her child asking her whether her misery would end if she killed him. The woman was shocked and wondered how an eighteen-month old child could talk. When she looked at the face of the child, she saw it radiating with glow. She realized her mistake, repented and carried him back to her hut. At this, the child spoke again: “I know your affection for me. Don’t worry; I’ll help you get over your problem. You go to the Amman sannidhi at the temple here; there, you’ll find a snake-mound to the right of the sannidhi. If you put your hand inside the mound, you’ll find a treasure. You needn’t be afraid, the snake won’t be there. You go to Paakkam village in the north. You’ll become prosperous there. You take all your three children and my father along with you.” The woman, spellbound by the words of the child stood confused in the middle of her way. The child insisted that she shouldn’t waste her time and miss the opportunity.

Then, the woman, emboldened by the words of the voice, put her hand inside the mound. She found bundles of gold coins. She collected all the bundles and left her hut with her family immediately for Paakkam village. Her life became comfortable in that hamlet as per the words of her child. She wondered who her child was, whether it was a divine child etc. One day she found the child missing. But, she couldn’t find him anywhere and she was totally shattered.

After ten years, she found the child at the bottom of Pazhanimalai. The boy, Paramanandan, though recognized his mother, didn’t feel any love or affection for his mother. He had attained ‘gnana’. When she realized that her son would not return to her, she stayed back with him and served him till her end. Paramananda became the heir of Gorakkar, one of the foremost Siddhas. He neutralized the ‘karma’ of those who came to him and led them on the right path. He used to sit on the trees and talk to birds in their language! He would play with animals. The animals and the birds reciprocated his love. He would visit the huts of the poor and share their poor meal and mingle with them freely, sleeping on the floor. Nobody could understand his activities. He wrote some notes on palm leaves for one month but let them go into the river water! People could not understand the meaning of his action. But, when they retrieved the palm leaves, they found many notes on medicinal herbs.

After having lived for fifty-two years, Paramananda disappeared one day right under the eyes of the people and became invisible. But, even today, many people there claim that Paramananda Siddha appeared before them. If we pray to him earnestly, he would rush to our help, people believe and say. Many Siddhas like Paramananda are still present among us in many villages in invisible form. And, we can claim this as our exclusive pride!
