In India, fashion has become the order of the day even among middle class women. Today, fashion has entered even the suburban villages and hamlets. Our traditional techniques like embroidery, zardosi etc. are being used in the designing of fabrics. Indian women show their conspicuousness by wearing colorful bangles and stickers. Also, they wear artistic jewelry that accentuates the looks. History shows that even thousands of years back, these jewelry and other beauty aids were in use among women. Bangles are most wanted by women. They wear bangles to suit their dresses and occasion. Bangles are part of our tradition and culture. In those days, it was customary for married women to wear glass bangles. There are various types of bangles including pearl bangles, ivory bangles and stone-studded bangles. A woman’s native state can be identified by the bangles she wears. Gold bangles are common to all communities. In West Bengal, married women wear bangles called ‘Loha’. Punjabis wear bangles that have both white and red colors. In the Gujarati community, the pregnant woman is presented with a silver bracelet by her sister-in-law. The Maharashtrian pregnant woman is presented with green bangles. In Tamil Nadu, a function is held in which the pregnant woman is adorned with a number of glass bangles in different colors. In Kolkata red color bangles are considered as being more sacred while in Tamil Nadu, green color bangles are considered very important for married women.
