To avoid skin problems:

We should avoid fatty and oily food. We should wash our face frequently to ensure that it doesn’t remain oily. When immunity comes down, pigmentation occurs on the forehead and cheeks. When melanin which gives the complexion to the skin raises and rests close to the upper layer of the skin, dark patches are formed. To protect the skin from sunlight, sun protection lotion or creams can be used. Also, there’s treatment for pigmentation. Vitamin C gives immune power to the skin.

Bathing

The uppermost layer of the skin is called epidermis. To keep this fresh, we should bathe at least two times daily. Bathing in lukewarm water will protect the skin from bacteria. Bathing in hurry will only encourage the growth of bacteria on our body. Also, it will lead to minor skin problems like itching. Under arm parts sweat more than the other parts of the body. Under garments should be very clean. Deodorants can be used. If the soap we use contains more alkali or fat, the skin will not benefit. If there’s more fat, the skin becomes more oily, if there’s more alkali, the skin becomes dry. Face wash or body lotion are very good. A soft brush can be used to clean the body. This will help remove the dead cells. In those days, fragrant powder would be prepared at home for bathing. Turmeric, Bengal gram powder, green gram powder, rose petals powder, water mixed with the essence of jasmine and other fragrant flowers were used for bathing. Oil can be used for moisturizing.


Hair

Many people have the problem of falling hair. Previously, alopecia problem was dominant among men but nowadays even women are having this problem. To prevent this, oil bath should be taken once a week without fail. Scalp massaging can be done with Ayurvedic oils or aromatherapy oils. This reduces the heat on the head and arrests hair fall. The oil can be massaged and left overnight. In the morning, the head should be washed with shikakai or a good quality shampoo. This will not only arrest hair fall but will also help hair growth. Those working before computers and those working night shifts should have oil bath without fail. It is always better to follow the traditional practices to protect and preserve our looks.
