Hair plays an important part in the looks of a woman. Some women are lucky to have long tresses that fall below their waist. Not that all are lucky. But, we can improve our looks if we take care to maintain whatever length and thickness we have. But, there’s nobody without hair problem.


For some, even while combing the hair, there’ll be heavy hair fall. And, some will have premature graying. Dandruff, itching, lice etc. are problems that affect the hair. If the hair is not maintained properly, it’ll lose its texture and luster and the face will also lose its glow. There are various types of shampoos selling in the market. Low-quality shampoos will harm the hair because of the chemicals they contain. Home made remedies are always safe. Broth, mixed with soap pod or Bengal gram powder will serve as a good shampoo. ‘Thaali’ leaves also can be used as shampoo.

Hair can be maintained using natural ingredients, available at our kitchen. Here are some tips:

  • Are you worried because of hair fall? Don’t worry! Apply coconut milk on the scalp and leave on for thirty minutes and then wash off. Repeat the process once in a week.
  • Powder ‘Athimaduram’, which is available in country drug stores and mix well with buffalo milk. Apply the mixture on the scalp and leave on for thirty minutes. Then wash off. Repeat this process twice a week. Hair fall will stop.
  • Are you embarrassed because of premature graying? Don’t worry! Powder ‘Vembalam pattai’ (available in country drug stores) and mix it well with coconut oil. Apply the mixture daily as combing oil.
  • ‘Kadukkai’ has the power to reverse graying. Add the juice of ‘Karisilankanni’ to the water in which ‘Kadukkai’ has been soaked. Apply the mixture on the scalp and leave on for some time and then wash off. Grey hairs will disappear in course of time.
  • Amla is very good for hair growth as well as color. After removing the nuts from the fruits, dry them up under shade. When they are dry, fry them in coconut oil. This oil is very good for scalp and hair. Graying will also be arrested.
  • Take cubebs (‘Vaal milaku’), fenugreek and cumin seeds in equal quantity. Powder them into a fine mixture and add coconut oil. Regular application of this oil will reverse premature graying.
  • Soak cubebs in water and grind into a paste adding milk. Apply the paste on the scalp and leave on for some time and then wash off. This is a good remedy for dandruff.
  • To rectify ‘copper’ hair, apply the white of the egg on the scalp and wash off after thirty minutes. Repeat the process twice a week. This is a simple remedy to deal with the problem of ‘copper’ hair.
  • Do not use English lotions for removing lice. Grind ‘Vasambu’ with water into a nice paste and apply the same on the scalp and leave on for thirty minutes and then wash off. Repeat the process twice a week.
  • Avoid chemical dyes. They’ll lead to graying of the full hair in course of time.
  • Always avoid chemicals for any hair problem, use only natural commodities.
